The natural beauty of Beaufort Lowcountry inspires a lively culture of arts, entertainment and creative expression. Our coastal Eden recharges the creative imaginations of musicians, actors, authors, storytellers, painters, weavers, sculptors and jewelry artisans. Thriving art galleries and craft shops are filled with the work of local artists inspired by the nature, history and spirit. Intriguing exhibits rotate frequently in the various galleries. Local entertainment embraces everything from historical revues and Gullah-inspired productions to the magnificent Beaufort Orchestra. Anchorage 1770 keeps a finger on the pulse of the arts scene to populate our calendar of worthy events.
Founded in 1957, the Beaufort Art Association (BAA) is the center of the art community in downtown Beaufort. As Beaufort developed into one of the most charming artistic communities on the east coast of the United States, the BAA became a regional centerpiece for local artists, art lovers and artisans to support, exhibit and grow their individual talents. The BAA Gallery opened in the spring of 2002 and displays the works of Exhibiting Artist Members. Every 6 weeks new exhibits are rotated into the gallery.
Founded in 1991, Artworks, the Arts Council of Beaufort, Port Royal and the Sea Islands applies the many creative tools of The Arts to strengthen artists and to enrich audiences, collectors, and visitors through high quality arts experiences and arts education programs 365 days a year. With a gallery and a theater on location, ARTworks sponsors many exhibits, performances, concerts and events throughout the year.
The University of South Carolina Beaufort Center for the Arts and the Society for Bluffton Arts in nearby Bluffton add to the rich experience of arts in the Lowcountry.
