Our Trip to Time Inc's NYC HeadquartersFamilyThe Lesesne Family

In March of this year, we were invited by Southern Living Magazine to join the Southern Living Hotel Collection. Besides being a great honor for our inn, joining the collection also came with several perks.

One such benefit was being invited to join the other members of the collection in New York in June for a series of meetings at Time, Inc., the parent company of Southern Living. It’s never easy to get away from the inn, but Amy and I are so glad we took this trip!

Over two evenings of great dining, we were able to meet other boutique property owners and hear their insights on operating small independent hotels. To be included in a group with the likes of The King & Prince on St. Simons Island, Blackberry Farm in Tennessee and the Wilcox in Aiken, SC left us a little overwhelmed. All of the owners were very gracious in sharing their ideas and thoughts on managing a successful property.

Our day at Time, Inc included meetings with Coastal Living Magazine, Food & Wine, Travel & Leisure and of course Southern Living. Great opportunities for advertising and editorial coverage were presented and ideas were developed for promoting the collection as a whole.

We concluded our day with a tour of Time Headquarters. Watching the production of different video outlets and learning how certain media properties at Time develop their stories will be very helpful as we continue to spread the word about our new inn.

To top it off we spent two nights at the Beekman Hotel. What a fantastic property that Amy and I highly recommend for your next trip to the Big Apple! The staff was great and the hotel is stunning. There is a great open bar area in the lobby that appears to be a Happy Hour paradise for Manhattan.

Though the trip was short we did make time to visit the 9/11 Memorial and on the way to the airport we couldn’t resist making a stop in Little Italy for an authentic Italian lunch!
