The owners of Anchorage 1770, Amy and Frank (read: Lesesne, and not Underwood), beautifully restored the riverfront mansion into Lowcountry’s newest digs, careful to update the property's 15 rooms without shedding two centuries of history. With past lives as a private home, a Union Army hospital, and a clubhouse for the literary elite, today, the boutique inn's classic facade makes way for a bright and contemporary interior. Sundowners are best enjoyed on the roof, and a touch of southern charm might score you a special sweet: The manager happens to make South Carolina’s tastiest cupcakes.
